Detroit Casino Workers Rally Outside MGM Grand as Strike Reaches One Month
Members of the Detroit Casino Council gathered outside the MGM Grand in Detroit for a rally as the ongoing strike is set to hit a month next week. Tyjuanese Taylor from Unite Local 24 is about to celebrate her 24th year at MotorCity Casino on Nov. 15. She hopes for a good contract for her anniversary saying, “We’re just mostly here to support one another until we get a contract. It would be a good anniversary gift if we get a great contract. One of the best that we have.”
Despite the chillier temperatures and nearly a month of picketing, Taylor and her fellow members are optimistic, with high levels of belief that they will reach a favorable outcome. She expressed gratitude for the support they have received during this challenging time. “[S]ometimes, you know, you go through days where you may just be going through it. So we do appreciate, and we thank everyone for all the support they been giving us,” she said.
The Detroit Casino Council (DCC) is set to launch a digital campaign on Monday that calls for the boycott of four online betting platforms. The campaign aims to exert pressure on these platforms to support the workers’ demands.
